OUR STORY
Our Story
Pastor J. T. Wood started Trinity Baptist Church in 1953.
At that time the building was located at 1205 Houston St., across from McCallum High School. During its history, there have been six pastors. Our current pastor, Dusty Brian, arrived in 2017.
The church remained on Houston St. for 54 years; but on August 19, 2007, an arsonist's fire destroyed the buildings. After much prayer and consideration of God's will, the current property was purchased at 2305 Forbes Drive. Plans and construction of a new building took nearly three and one half years. In the interim time, the gracious folks at Weed, Corley Fish Memorial Chapel allowed the congregation to meet in their facilities free of charge. In fact, not one regularly scheduled church service was cancelled. Even on the Sunday of the fire, the congregation met on the parking lot and on the lawn under the trees. Pastor David Burkholder often remarked that the church didn't burn down, only the building.
The first service in the spacious new building was on January 16, 2011.
This new location is centrally located near the intersection of two major freeways - U.S. 290 East and U.S. 183. It is about one half block west of Austin's main USPS office and is easily accessed from most parts of the metro area.
The building was dedicated to the ministering of the Gospel of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 10, 2011. The Lord has been so good and has poured out His bountiful blessings. We remain mindful of Isaiah 61:3, "To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified."
The emphasis at Trinity is on Bible teaching and preaching with the goal of Christians growing in grace and the unsaved coming to Christ as personal Lord and Saviour. Our pastor and congregation strongly believe in Hebrews 4:12 - "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
